We often imagine change as a clear movement from one state to another.
We make a decision, establish a direction and expect ourselves to continue along it.
Yet our inner experience rarely follows such a predictable course.
Motivation rises and falls. Confidence changes. What seemed important yesterday may feel less important tomorrow.
Sometimes we move forward with enthusiasm. At other times, we hesitate, question ourselves or simply lose interest.
Years ago, I explored these movements through the relationship between intention and resistance.
What interests me now is that we may not need to interpret every change in our inner state as progress or failure.
Perhaps change is less like climbing a staircase and more like observing the movement of a river.
There are moments of stillness, periods of turbulence, unexpected turns and stretches where very little seems to happen.
And yet life continues.
Could we become more comfortable with that movement, without constantly demanding that it take us somewhere?
