We often think of resistance as something standing in our way.
Something to overcome, push through or leave behind.
But I've wondered whether resistance sometimes deserves a little more attention before we decide what to do with it.
There are times when saying no is entirely appropriate.
When stepping away from a situation, questioning an expectation or refusing to continue along a familiar path may be an expression of discernment rather than fear.
At other times, the very same feeling of resistance may arise because something unfamiliar challenges what we've always believed.
From the inside, those experiences can feel remarkably similar.
And perhaps that's what makes resistance interesting.
It doesn't always tell us whether to proceed or withdraw.
Sometimes it simply invites us to look a little more closely at what we're experiencing.
