Who Is Flying Your Plane?

← Original Explorations

Imagine your life as a long flight.

For years, you've been sitting comfortably in the passenger cabin. The aircraft takes off, follows its route, encounters occasional turbulence, and continues towards a destination.

You might have some idea where you're going, but you've never really examined the controls.

Then one day, you're invited into the cockpit.

For the first time, you begin noticing the instruments, the decisions being made, and the automatic systems that have been operating throughout the journey.

Nothing about the aircraft has necessarily changed.

What has changed is your awareness of it.

I used this analogy many years ago when exploring the habits, beliefs and reactions that quietly influence our lives.

How much of what we do is consciously chosen, and how much is simply the continuation of patterns we've become accustomed to?

Perhaps becoming more aware doesn't mean taking control of everything.

Perhaps it begins with discovering what's already happening.
